*Please read through to the bottom where we share the specific information we need for your application!

DEAR YOU…

The challenges from 2020 are far from over but you wake up energised each day because you know that you want to always move the needle and be part of making a meaningful difference. You want to use your strengths and what makes you 'you' to build community, advocate for children and young people from Singapore's most vulnerable areas so they can be themselves, learn new skills and grow into confident, kind and compassionate young people.

You are a trailblazing servant leader who displays deep commitment to the organisation’s ethos and values of leading with heart, building a longer table so that we may all have a place and celebrating what makes us human. As a people person and excellent communicator, you know how to inspire, move and motivate towards a real call to action.  You are a servant leader who believes in leadership with empathy and kindness, and are fearless (yes, you are a risk taker!) in your approach to making a meaningful impact. Above all, you have an unwavering belief that each  and every person can be part of making Singapore become a better place for all.

If you are excited by what you're reading, continue on and we hope to connect with you soon!

SOME SUPERPOWERS YOU MAY HAVE…

  • Passion. About the Blessings in a Bag mission and vision and how we get to transform hearts and minds of future generations.    You have a passion for working with, and teaching, children/young people of various social, educational, and economic backgrounds and levels

  • Servant leader and Coach. People first, human-orientated approach. You love mentoring and encouraging others to be their best selves.

  • Fluency in the language of children. You have a deep understanding of progressive, inquiry based education.  You have the experience of or a desire to teach in a setting that honours the strengths, unique gifts and independence of children.

  • You are a creative (curriculum) designer.  You leverage student interests, real world problems and professional tools/resources/experts/partners to design engaging learning experiences/projects that drive a student’s curiosity and love for learning

  • You are committed to social justice and equity.  You embrace equity, inclusion and social justice as pillars upon which you work and that are critical to personal development, community well-being, organisational growth.  You see opportunities all around you to improve both personally and within the community - and actively seek to create equitable learning spaces.

  • Empathy > Sympathy.   You have a strong sense of empathy and continuously find opportunities to engage with the cohort and the wider community to understand how they view the world.  You communicate in a way that validates and humanises their lived experiences.  There are no pity parties thrown here!

  • No task is too small. You’re able to wear many hats and you give equal love to the annoying work and the fun stuff. You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves to get the job done and you would ‘move heaven and earth’ if that’s what it takes.

  • Deep Curiosity. You’re energised by creating connections and conversations, learning about other people and things.

  • You have an appreciation for data. As we have been operating on a ground-up level, we have yet to implement any data evaluation processes. We do believe, however, that there is a responsibility to think critically about data and how it can shape our work for the good. We also believe that it can inform and create awareness to the wider community.

  • Culture. You are both a cultivator of community culture and someone who embraces and does the work to understand the differences and nuances between global cultures.

  • Tik Tok.  Not the social media kind, the seconds hand on the watch type. Which means you are able to prioritise, dedicated to work on what’s meaningful and impactful and you’re highly organised.

  • Gift of the Gab. You have incredible communication skills and the ability to move, inspire and uplift others through storytelling.

  • Well-being. You have an established self-care routine, you re-energise well and you are aware of what drains you. You do not believe in ‘hustle culture’ nor do you support the ‘sleep is for the weak’ mantra that often weaves its way into ground-ups or small organisations in their growth stages. You wholeheartedly believe that well-being inspires better well-doing and your capacity to lead with love.

  • You are comfortable with ambiguity. You are intellectually curious and have a strong sense of agency. You are comfortable not always having or knowing the answers. You are known to be a risk-taker.

P.S Something to inspire you even if this role is not quite the right fit for you..

The Daring Greatly Leadership Manifesto by Brene Brown

Leader: Anyone who holds her-or himself accountable for finding potential in people and processes. We want to show up, we want to learn and we want to inspire. We are hardwired for connection, curiosity and engagement. We crave purpose, and we have a deep desire to create and contribute. We want to take risks, embrace our vulnerabilities, and be courageous.  When learning and working are dehumanised - when you no longer see us and no longer encourage our daring, or when you only see what we produce or how we perform - we disengage and turn away from the very things that the world needs from us: our talent, our ideas, and our passion. What we ask is that you engage with us, show up beside us, and learn from us. Feedback is a function of respect; when you don’t have honest conversations with us about our strengths and our opportunities for growth, we question our contributions and your commitment. Above all else, we ask that you show up, let yourself be seen, and be courageous. Dare greatly with us.
